While the Outback just received a facelift for the 2015 model year, Subaru is already considering refreshing this model even more with the 2016 Subaru Outback. The next model is going to feature a slightly different styling, the same interior that everybody loves in the 2015 model and also improved engines that even though are outdated, are going to provide more power and better fuel consumption than before.
The 2016 model is set to be launched in the autumn of 2015, which means that there is still time for things to improve with the new model. The car will come at a base price of about $25,000 which is perfectly in line with the older generation. The better equipped models though will set you back as much as $33,000. Thanks to this aggressive pricing, good quality of the interior and reliable engines, the Outback managed to become the number one selling crossover in the US, and the 2016 model is planning on doing the exact same thing.
2016 Subaru Outback Release Date
Just as we said before, it will receive improved engines. This means that the 2.5 liter unit and the 3.6 liter powerplant will get improved fuel economy by around 5% which is nice considering the competition is offering hybrid models. The good news though come in the form of the 2 liter flat 4 turbo-diesel that offers better fuel economy than some hybrids, smoother operation even though it is a diesel and more power than before, at 150 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. Subaru also said that there is a slim chance for the car to receive turbocharged engine, instead of the 3.6 liter unit an equally powerful 2.5 liter turbocharged engine that should improve fuel economy but this engine might not have the towing power of the unit it replaces.
Transmission wise, the Outback comes with a few options, depending on the engine you are getting. The petrol engines are available with either a 5 speed manual or an optional 6 speed automatic while the diesel comes with a CVT transmission that is very comfortable and also easy to use. With this amount of choices you can be sure that the power supply of gasoline units from 175 to 256 hp and diesel of about 150 hp will be utilized in optimal way.
The interior of the 2016 Subaru Outback is well equipped for the price you’re paying. The car comes as standard with climate control, a very good audio system and also electric front and rear seats. Options will include dual tone leather upholstery, a satellite navigation system and a nine speaker audio system made by Harman/Kardon.
Changes For 2016 Subaru Outback
Its exterior on the other hand will be pretty similar to that of the 2015 model. The only notable differences we expect to see are to the front of the car where it received a new grille for the diesel that will reduce drag and offer better air supply. At the back it received a dual exhaust system that looks better and also sounds a whole lot better for a diesel.
There is no doubt that the 2016 Subaru Outback is one of the best choices on the mid-size SUV segment but it will also have a tough competition and some great models from other car makers that it will need to beat. Main competitors are Honda CrossTour, Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Edge, Toyota Venza, Jeep Grand Cherokee and similar.
