2016 Mercedes GLK Redesign And Release Date

While the GLK is quite a new model in the US being sold only for 4 years, the 2016 Mercedes GLK is going to be a well-deserved facelift that will mostly keep its design but it will completely change the platform it is based on. Unlike the current generation, the 2016 model is going to share the same platform with the 2016 C Class which means there will be improvements made to the overall handling of the car as well as to its engines.

Price for this new model hasn’t been disclosed just yet by Mercedes and it is pretty hard to guess in which direction it will go since it will come as a redesigned model and based on the new platform. We expect the 2016 Mercedes GLK to come at around $38,000 to $39,000 which would make it quite competitive and it would put it in front of its main rivals, on luxury crossover market.

Let’s start with what could power this medium sized crossover. Firstly, the base model of 2016 Mercedes GLK will most likely get the same 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine that is also found in the previous generation. This particular engine should be good for around 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range there should be a 2.1 liter turbo diesel inline 4 with 200 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. This should be the first choice for people who are concerned about fuel consumption.

The novelty comes in the form of the most powerful engine in the range. While previously Mercedes used a 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 it is now moving to a 3 liter twin turbo V6. This brand new engine has been developed from ground up and features better fuel efficiency than the previous engine but also brings more power. It is capable of up to around 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque which is a hefty 10% improvement over the previous model. There are reports that we could be getting AMG version and in this case the same 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged could come with much more power that is one of the options.

Transmission wise, there will be only one transmission available on all models. That is a 7 speed automatic dual clutch gearbox which will transfer power to the rear wheels and you can get four wheel drive as option in 4MATIC version. Both the gearbox and the suspension are really smooth and offer a really great ride that is expected from luxury vehicle from German carmaker.

There isn’t much information’s about its interior but we expect it to be very similar to that of the old model. The only changes for 2016 Mercedes GLK will probably be to the equipment of the base model which should receive some extras over the 2012 model. High quality materials in combination with soft touch plastics and similar is certainly expected here.

The exterior of the 2016 Mercedes GLK will receive small changes to the front of the car which will receive LED as standard on all models while the back will now feature a LED strip over the rear window that will light up in low visibility conditions. There is also going to be a new set of 19 inch wheels for the 3.0 liter V6 model and a new body-kit.

2016 Mercedes GLK Release Date

Unfortunately though, there is still at least a year until the car will be released on the market. Even before the official launch we do expect to see more details about this vehicle but at this point we are pretty sure that we have all the most important information’s about the 2016 Mercedes GLK.
