A mid-life facelift is approaching the CX5 with the 2016 Mazda CX5. This new model should include slightly different styling in order to make it last on the market for a couple more years, improved engines that even though are capable of developing roughly the same power, they will be more economical. On top of all these, the new model should see a small price drop in order to make it more competitive with the German and the other Japanese competitors.
Price for the 2016 Mazda CX5 hasn’t been set just yet but we expect it to be at least 5% less expensive. This translates in a starting price for the base model of just over 20.000$, meaning it will also be less expensive than the Tiguan and the CRV, its main two competitors. Price reduction has not been confirmed so we will have to wait for this model to be offered to the market to see the definite price tag.
Unfortunately there is still some time until new model will get released on the market so we will have to wait for it slightly longer. This will happen in the late 2015, so there is still at least a full year until its release on the market but that does not prevent us to deliver information’s we received through few reports and rumors.
Specs Of 2016 Mazda CX5
Engine wise, it will come with the same basic two engines from the previous generation with minor improvements. The base engine that is found on the Sport model is a 2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine good for as much as 160 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque (a 5 horsepower bump over the previous car). The more expensive models though will be available with a more powerful 2.5 liter inline 4 that provides up to 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The car feels quite good with both engines but the 2 liter might seem a bit underpowered, especially on the highway when it struggles against less powerful cars.
As far as transmission goes, it is either available with front wheel drive in which case the fuel consumption sits at around 27 MPG on average for both engines, or with all-wheel drive. In this case it will offer up to 25 MPG on average. The only available transmission for all the models will be a 6 speed automatic that could be improved as far as the speed of gear changing goes. It does a job nicely but sometimes is slow and will not return sporty drive which many drivers would like.
Redesigned 2016 Mazda CX5
The exterior of the 2016 Mazda CX5 will only get a minor change to the mirrors, which will get user replaceable covers and different tail lights that should better fit the design of the car. Also, there will be a new set of rims on the Grand Touring model. Overall, it will come with slightly improved and more appealing looks.
Its interior on the other hand will remain unchanged. There will be the same level of equipment on all the models except the base one which will now receive a trip computer as standard. Besides this, the high end model will get the possibility of a panoramic electric roof.
