While the Lincoln Continental has been quite a presence on the US car market, since 2002 it has been discontinued in the favor of cheaper cars that did pretty much the same things. Well, we have good news because Ford is thinking of resurrecting that car with the 2016 Lincoln Continental. This new model is set to be a medium sized luxury car that will compete with the Cadillac’s and the BMWs.
There hasn’t been set a price just yet for this car because it is only a concept so far, but we expect it to go to as much as 60.000$ for a base model and quite a bit more for a fully upgraded one. Currently we only have the images of the concept version that was launched all the way back in 2002. It is quite obvious that the concept will need to be modernized and that the production ready, 2016 Lincoln Continental model, will be at least slightly different but at this point there are no spy photos, we only have few renderings plus images of 2002 concept.
2016 Lincoln Continental Price
The interior of this new 2016 Lincoln Continental is going to be extremely comfortable and it will probably compete with the interiors of more expensive cars, such as the Audi A8 or even the BMW 7 Series. This is good news for Lincoln, especially when you consider their current lineup of cars. It will include, as standard features, satellite navigation, front and rear electric seats that are heated and ventilated, a very good surround sound system with two active subwoofers and also a very good infotainment system that has dedicated LCD screens, both in the front and back.
The exterior on the other hand will be based on that of the concept with small similarities of the current Lincoln cars. This means we should expect a car that has a boxy design with good proportions, an imposing front grille that will be accompanied by a pair of LED headlights and daytime running lights. The back of 2016 Lincoln Continental will feature two subtle exhaust pipes.
The car is set to release on the market at the start of 2016, so there is plenty of time for things to develop until then. This new 2016 Lincoln Continental is going to be an extension of the 2002 concept which featured a V12 5.9 liter engine and suicide doors. We do expect more details to emerge during the 2015th and that the new concept model will be shown. We could already hear that it will come as a 2015 Lincoln Continental model but that most likely will not happen.
Pictures Of 2016 Lincoln Continental
The 2016 Lincoln Continental is not going to feature the V12 in the concept, or at least a V8. It is actually going to feature the brand new EcoBoost 2.7 liter twin turbocharged V6, but instead of the usual 335 horsepower it will develop at least 400 horsepower and around 380 lb-ft of torque. All of this power will be sent to an all-wheel drive system and a 6 speed automatic that is going to be silky smooth as well as quite fast while changing gears. Another option could be the slightly larger 3.5 V6 EcoBoost unit but also the hybrid powertrain that we could see in few luxury models like this one.
The performance of the 2016 Lincoln Continental will be on par with the German competitors, with a top speed of at least 150 MPH (limited) and acceleration from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 6 seconds it is going to be quite fast! With larger and more powerful we could see even better acceleration times but for those details we will have to wait little longer and see what it will bring to the market.
