The Kia Optima is a medium sized family car that looks good, offers good performance from a nice selection of engines and it is different from all the other cars on this market segment. The 2016 Kia Optima is not going to be the expected facelift but it will actually be a brand new model with different design, improved engines and more competitive pricing that should put the Optima right next to its main competitors.
This was not expected to happen simply because the currently offered Optima was redesigned for 2014th model and originally we thought that it will last at least one year longer but Kia has a different plans. Currently there are only spy photos of new model and those are offered with lots of camouflage so we can see what design it will bring.
While the current model starts at roughly $21,650, the 2016 model should start at around $22,000 making it in line with the competition, but also there are reports it could be offered with about $1,000 lower price. Unfortunately though, it is not going to be available until the end of 2015, so a lot of things might change until the official release. Also, when you take into account that a fully equipped Optima will set you back $30,000 and that it features a better engine and interior as a 10.000$ more expensive car, you really start thinking why it doesn’t has more success.
2016 Kia Optima Price
Engine wise, the 2016 model will probably come with similar engines as those found in the current generation. From what Kia said, the car might get a new and improved 2.4 liter engine for the base model which should have around 200 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque (a small boost from the previous 192 horsepower). The other available engine in the new Optima should be a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 with at least 274 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, just like it was the case with previous version, making it one of the most powerful saloons on the market.
There might also be a hybrid drivetrain for the 2016 model with a 2 liter engine and an electric motor but there aren’t any more news on that just yet. European market will again get 1.7 liter turbocharged diesel unit and we are sure that there is a decent number of customers in U.S. that would like to see this or slightly larger diesel unit powering 2016 Kia Optima.
These engines should come as standard with a 6 speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive while the turbocharged version will also offer the possibility of a 6 speed manual which allows better control of the car and is a really nice addition in the current market.
Release Date Of 2016 Kia Optima
Inside the car you’ll receive all the necessary equipment as standard. This means that air conditioning, electric windows and electric front seats will be offered even on the base model. The satellite navigation system, the climate control system and the leather upholstery on the other hand will only be offered on the more expensive models as paid extras.
Let’s move to the exterior of the 2016 Kia Optima. From what it has been released officially and from the spy photos, we can clearly see the general design scheme Kia is going for. The new Optima is going to be a longer and wider model, with bigger rear windows which means the room in the back will increase quite a bit. The front of the car will change but not so significantly as the other parts of the car.
