The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is a future model of this GM produced mid-size sedan car. First Malibu was produced long time ago, back in 1964 when it was a trim level of Chevy Chevelle. In 1978, it came as a separate model and it was produced for five more years until 1983 when its production was discontinued.
During this time Malibu was averagely popular rear-wheel drive mid-size car. When it was reintroduced in 1997, its drive was shifted to its front wheels. Currently produced version is in eight generation of vehicles and are based on GM Epsilon II platform, same as Chevy Impala, Cadillac XTS, Buick LaCrosse and few more popular vehicles.
Recently spy photographers caught 2016 Chevrolet Malibu mule on the test drive together with Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion which are its main rivals in this class. Most part of this test mule was camouflaged, and only the roof was left visible. This might mean that the new model is going to come with some bigger changes in its exterior styling. According to spy photos if the vehicle in question really is a Malibu it will come with lower stance and little bit longer than before.
Review Of 2016 Chevrolet Malibu
We are pretty sure that the changes to the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will be substantial, if that is not the case there would be no reasons for Chevrolet to use large amount of camouflage to hide almost every part and segment of their test mule. Competition also has a lot to offer meaning the new car will come with redesigned grille, headlights, wheels and waist line. All improvements will have the goal to bring more aggressive yet refined vehicle that will be more noticeable on the streets.
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will probably come with some very interesting interior features, but it is really hard to guess right now how everything is going to look on the inside. Some reviewers say they have an inside information that the new model’s interior is going to bear resemblance to the design we’ve seen in newly made Chevy Cruze, which came out of the same assembly plant as the Malibu we’re talking about. If so, new model will come with two tone interior design, leather upholstery in higher trim levels and increased central console that lies more than a few inches in front of the rest of the dash.
When it comes to performance things we saw on spy photos made while testing in China is that new model is probably going to come with its current 2.5 liter four cylinder engine, while the top of the line engine might be the new 2.0 turbocharged four cylinder, although there is a possibility that 2016 model is going to come with V6 instead. Hybrid version of the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is also one of the options and it would certainly attract more buyers to the brand. Similar figures are expected like it was the case with 2015 model engines and that means the 2.5 liter will pump out 196 hp while the turbocharged 2.0 liter unit will offer 259 hp.
2016 Chevrolet Malibu Release Date
Price for the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is of course still unknown, same goes for the release date. Most of the online review community thinks the base version is going to be sold for around $23,000 and that it’s going to become available in the end of 2015, although if Chevy decides to wait a little bit they might pass this car as a 2017 model.
