Here we have two American icons going head to head, there is no better way to determine which is better than to lay out all the most important info about these cars. On one side we have new Corvette and on the other Viper, both are more than impressive machines and we are aiming to those that can offer most in the lineup.
There is no doubt that Corvette Z06 with Z07 Performance package is the best representative of this lineup. Its worthy rival from Dodge is the Viper ACR model and we can only say that both of these are made to be driven hard. You can take them on track and push them to the limit and they will not fail you, there is a good chance that you will be the fastest on almost any track. We need to add that even these might not be the most refined supercars on the market, they do offer decent level of comfort so you can drive them almost every day.
We will start with the performances and engine that are offered since we think that this is the most important and most interesting segment for both Dodge Viper ACR and Corvette Z06 model. For the Viper we are getting 8.4 liter V10 unit that comes with different exhaust system that allows it to slightly reduce backpressure. As a result this vehicle is capable of delivering 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Competitor in this article has a slightly different approach since the Z06 model brings 6.2 liter V8 unit to which supercharger is attached. Result in this case is 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition Vs 2016 Dodge Viper ACR
Insane amount of power and torque from both 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R edition and 2016 Dodge Viper ACR allows them to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3 seconds. According to tests, Corvette is slightly faster and could hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds while the max speed is 200 mph. On the other hand ACR version should accelerate to 60 mph in 3 sec and can reach top speed of 193 mph. Differences in acceleration are small so the outcome of the race will certainly depend on the driver.
With this top of the line Corvette you can get seven speed manual transmission that allows you full control over the vehicle and we think that this will be a choice of many drivers. Also, you can opt for the eight speed automatic transmission that allows you to control everything with paddle shifters. For the Viper ACR we are getting only six speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission and according to reports it seems that Dodge will not be offering automatic any time soon. It is obvious that those drivers that want paddle shifters and automatic transmission will have to go to Corvette but we do not think that this will be the most important thing in this comparison.
All the power that is delivered by Corvette needs to be under control all the time and it is important to know that Brembo ceramic brakes are delivered. For highest level of traction and grip we are getting Michelin PS Cup 2 high performance tires. We can say that with Viper we are getting more in this segment since ACR model also brings Brembo carbon ceramic brakes but also adjustable suspension and aerodynamic devoted parts. Suspension can be adjusted and you are getting about three inches of height variation while the aerodynamic kit offers 10 components that can be either adjusted or completely removed.
Segment that could decide this battle is the price. This is where we are giving advantage to the Corvette that even when equipped with all those performance oriented features comes with a price of about $90,000. If you decide to buy Viper ACR model be ready to give up to $118,000. This is a significant difference even when we take into consideration that Viper offers more in some segments but then again Corvette also has its advantages with slightly more torque, better acceleration time, higher top speed and even optional automatic transmission.
