GM has a lot of cars based on their Epsilon II platform and the Lacrosse is one of those cars. It is one of the original few, being on the market since the early 2010. Since then, Buick didn’t really do anything to the car except a few minor exterior changes as well as a slight boost in power. However, this is about to change and even though GM didn’t said anything about a new Lacrosse, there are a few spy shots of a 2016 Buick Lacrosse, a car that is going to be based on the same platform but which is going to feature a lot more upgrades over the current model.
Buick plans to make the car lighter thanks to the use of aluminum or even composites in its body and chassis as well as more powerful with a few new engines in the lineup. On top of that, the design of the car is going to change drastically over that of the current generation which is good because while the current model was stylish, it didn’t offer anything unique, so most people out there thought that the design of the car could have been massively improved.
Release Date Of 2016 Buick Lacrosse
A release date hasn’t been set so far but considering the car is currently under testing, we expect it to be launched some time before the end of this year with the market availability from the start of 2016. The base price of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse is likely going to be over $37,000 considering the smaller Regal costs almost $32,000. This is slight increase from previous year model but still in line with our expectations from this heavily upgraded vehicle.
While the platform won’t change from the previous car, the engines in the new 2016 Buick Lacrosse are going to be all new. In fact, the old 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 is likely going to be replaced with a 1.6 liter turbocharged inline 4 engine which even though it sounds less powerful, it will be able to offer as much as 180 horsepower and more than 200 lb-ft of torque which is a nice improvement over the previous engine. This should also be quite a bit more fuel efficient, so we might see up to 30 MPG on average which would be great for such a big car.
For those people who want more power, Buick is going to offer on their Lacrosse a naturally aspirated V6 with around 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, this is the engine that is already available and will come with few small changes. In terms of transmission, both engines are likely going to use GM’s new 9 speed automatic while the more powerful V6 is likely going to be available with an optional all-wheel drive system. A hybrid version is also likely going to be launched at the same time when standard 2016 Buick Lacrosse comes. Another option, that is currently only in rumors mill is 2.0 liter turbo but at this point we do not have any details about it.
On the interior, the new Lacrosse is going to be bigger thanks to a longer wheelbase and a wider body. It will still offer seating up to five people but these are going to offer more legroom and headroom, so even the tallest passengers will have no problem being comfortable inside the cabin. In terms of equipment, the 2016 Buick Lacrosse will come as standard with leather upholstery, satellite navigation and electrically adjustable front seats as well as a premium infotainment system with internet access. Options are going to include better front seats with heating and cooling feature, a bigger screen for the satellite navigation unit as well as a massive glass roof.
2016 Buick Lacrosse Review
The outside of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse has yet to be revealed to the public but considering the spy shots of the car it is clear that it will be wider, longer but not as high as the current generation, all of which point to a more aggressive design than before. This could only mean that the dull and simple Lacrosse is going to become a lot more interesting which is great news for both its buyers and also for Buick. As the introduction date comes closer we expect to see it with less camouflage and for Buick to offer more details.
