Even the currently available generation of BMW 5 Series was delivered in 2009 we have reports that the 2016 BMW 5 Series will come with big changes. New model is being prepared for the delivery and we were able to see it tested with the production ready body but still with a lot of camouflage so we are no sure about the final looks.
There are at least few things that we do not know about the new generation and that includes powertrain options that will be offered. When looking at the spy images we can easily notice that this new model will be quite similar to the version that is currently available and that it will be easy to connect this model with the 5 Series we have today on the market. This is something that we were already able to see from BMW and few other European car makers that bring closely related vehicles in their respective lineups.
Biggest change with the design is that the nose dips a bit more at the front segment but nothing major. We are getting recognizable kidney grills and lower air intake in the lower segment of the front bumper. Quite similar to what we had with previous generation but in this case shape is slightly different. Another thing that will be changed is at the driver’s side where we are getting smaller doors and rumors suggest that this might be due to the placement of the charging port for the plug-in hybrid model.
2016 BMW 5 Series Release Date
At this point it is still not clear if the new model will be delivered as a 2016 BMW 5 Series version or will the BMW launch it as a 2017th model. From two sources we could hear that it will be officially presented by the end of 2015th and that the sales and deliveries will start during 2016th. As the date approaches we will be getting more details about this and deliver those right here.
Depending on the market we expect to see decent number of diesel units, gasoline models and turbocharged gasoline engines. All those will have at least a slight bump in performances and with optimization these powerplants will use less fuel. Biggest surprise and change in this segment is the possible delivery of the plug-in hybrid model. We still do not have any official information’s about power that hybrid powertrain would offer but we expect it to pump out from 300 to 350 hp and that it will be able to travel for about 20 to 30 miles on electric power only.
That these are not only changes for the 2016 BMW 5 Series we could hear from our sources. With new platform we are getting slightly more aluminum and carbon fiber. As a result of these changes we have vehicle that is about 220 pounds lighter just because of the changes to the platform and this is something that you will certainly feel with improved performances, handling and lower fuel consumption.
Price Of 2016 BMW 5 Series
Another quite important segment is the price and just like release date we still do not have any official announcements but only predictions about the 2016 BMW 5 Series. Previous models saw price increase and we expect that the same will happen with new generation. Anything from $1,000 to $5,000 increase for a base price is possible.
