The 2016 Audi A3 is a future model of one of the most popular hatchbacks and entry level sedans in Europe. It is based on Volkswagen MQB platform that it shares with Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Golf and Seat Leon. Since 1978 when Audi 50 production was discontinued, Audi produced only bigger mid-size sedan models, so it was the first small car that came from Audi’s facility in last 20 years.
This model bears resemblance to VW Golf and represents its more luxurious and sportier model. Although A3 comes with some features which Golf doesn’t have there are still many similarities between these two models. Just like always, Audi wanted and managed to distinguish its model from those that are offered by Volkswagen with more luxurious features.
This model’s design is nice and handsome, but it doesn’t offer almost anything new when it comes to exterior styling. This vehicle combines luxury pack seen in other Audi models with practicality of a hatchback, which makes it really popular for commuter rides. It was a big shock in the online reviewer’s community when people found out there’s not going to be a second generation A3 hatchback. This hatchback was loved by many, so Audi executives listened to the public outcry and brought back this hatchback for the 2016 model year.
Review Of 2016 Audi A3
Just like it was the case with 2015 model we will be getting the 2016 Audi A3 as both hatchback and sedan. Not all markets will receive both versions but we certainly do hope that the U.S. will be surprised with the delivery of both of these cars.
When it comes to interior 2016 Audi A3 hatchback offers some new features, but still most of the things are simply taken from the A3 sedan version for which previous A4 models were source of inspiration. It will have the same trim levels as the sedan so it will come in three possible packages: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. From the hi tech interior features it will come with MMI interface which is going to be able to control navigation system, which is one of the additional options, this application will also be able to control sound and all other interior entertainment features. It also comes with Audi Driver Select, very helpful application that allows you to adjust steering weight, throttle, transmission response and suspension tuning. There are also rumors that one of the additional options is going to be the Wi-Fi hotspot as well as Facebook and Twitter alerts, Internet radio and all the other goodies that come with Audi Connect application.
One of the setbacks considering 2016 Audi A3 performance is that only two engine options will be available in the 2016 model. First one is gasoline-electric hybrid and the other one is 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel four cylinder engine. Diesel engine is able to produce 15o horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque. Fuel efficiency estimates are haven’t been announced yet, but it is going come with some high mpg figure in combined conditions, similar to previous hatchback version that was able to return 30/42/34 mpg. Diesel engine is going to be paired with six speed automatic transmission.
2016 Audi A3 Specs
Other choice is for those that still prefer gasoline engines but are looking for more power without the need to pay a lot more on the fuel bill. Small 1.4 liter inline four cylinder turbocharged engine that can pump out 148 hp is paired with 75 KW electric motor in the 2016 Audi A3 e-tron model. Total power of the system is 200 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. There are no official fuel consumption numbers for this plug-in hybrid.
The 2016 Audi A3 will probably arrive at the dealers during summer of the 2015th. Diesel version of A3 is probably going to be more expensive than base version of A3 sedan that can be bought for approximately $30,000 at the moment. When equipped with TDI unit A3 costs about $2,700 more than the gasoline version for a sedan model, similar will be with the 2016 versions of both sedan and hatchback.
