The 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan will come into showrooms around the end of this year at a base price of just around $24.000. This means that is a bit more expensive that its main competitors but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the money, right? Well, to start it all up, the 2015 model will be basically the same version as the current generation with a few addition and some small improvements. Also, the car’s engine has been re-tuned in order to increase fuel economy by a small margin.
There is still only one engine available in the 2015 model and this is unfortunate considering the fact that the Tiguan is also sold with a 2 liter diesel that puts out 170 horsepower in other markets. The unit it will get in the US is a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged TFSI engine that is good for up to 210 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque. This means the car is no slouch by any measurement but it does mean that the fuel consumption will be as good as we would be getting with diesel powered model.

There are two transmission options. The base model gets a 6 speed manual transmission with overdrive and the possibility of changing gears by paddle-shifts and it is available only on the front wheel drive model. All of the other models including the one that have the 4motion four wheel drive system use an automatic 6 speed unit with overdrive that also lets the drive change the gears manually. Both of them are really smooth and fast offering a really nice driving experience.
Fuel consumption, as we said earlier, is not that good especially when taking into account its competitor. Nevertheless, the car is good for up to 24 MPG on average (getting as low as 21 mpg in the city while on the highway it will return 26 mpg). Fuel economy is certainly one of the segments which Tiguan should improve in the next few years.
The Volkswagen quality is really noticeable on the interior. You will get very good materials that are really soft to the touch and also the quality of the seats will be above the standards of its class. Standard equipment in 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan includes an audio system with USB connectivity, leather steering wheel and rear folding seats. Its only drawback is the fact that the boot space is quite small, being similar to that of a hatchback. This is something that you will need some time to get used to but it is not a big problem.
Specs Of 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan
There is a brand new equipment level, the R line. This one gives the car a more aggressive body kit with new front and rear bumpers as well as a new rear spoiler. The 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan also gets 19 inch wheels with high performance tires and tuned suspension that is 10 mm lower than the standard model. If Volkswagen wants to push this model as a sporty crossover or something similar than they will certainly need to bring much more power from its engine lineup.
We have mentioned earlier that the base price will be about $24,000 but have in mind that this is for a base version and if you want higher trim levels like the R-Line than the price goes significantly higher. Automatic transmission all-wheel drive equipped R-Line model of 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan will cost you about $39,000 and on top of this there is optional equipment that can push this price even higher so we are getting one quite expensive model.
