Dodge Ram 1500 was always considered one of the big three in pickup truck market along with Ford F150 and Chevy Silverado 1500. After Ram’s nameplate was separated from Dodge things pretty much remained the same and the 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel will be also offered to the market.
Fourth generation of Ram’s is coming to a close and 2015 year model will be the last one. Beside all standard strong powertrain options full-size pickups usually get, Ram decided to enter the diesel race in pickup segment and introduced 3.0L Ecodiesel V6 engine with 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. This torque rich powertrain, together with 8-speed automatic transmission enables Ram 1500 to tow up to 9,200 pounds. It is still not clear when the 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel will come to the market but we do expect it to be offered even before the end of this year or at the beginning of the next.
Specs Of 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel
From the outside, diesel models don’t differ from the rest of the lineup. They still get Dodge’s trademark cross grille with plenty of chrome. Headlights are angular, while bumper is pronounced. Scuff plate and rear bumper are also made of chrome, and only difference comes in small Ecodiesel plate which found its spot just north-east of the front fender from driver’s side.
Interior depends on a trim level and Ram’s offer everything from cloth to premium leather and from plastics to wood and chrome finishes. Dashboard itself has quite sturdy and angular design with huge instrument panel which was built in order to accommodate all controls and 8.4-inch touch screen display responsible for infotainment purposes. Cabin is divided in two parts and between, you’ll find big armrest, couple of cup holders and above average cubicle.
Besides the usual airbags, traction and stability controls, hill-start assist and trailer-sway control, most models offer standard rearview camera and those that don’t have it can be equipped with it since those are optional equipment. Front and rear parking sensors are unavailable in Regular cab models, but rest of the lineup has them as standard. These are pretty much all the safety features you’ll find in 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel as advanced electronic active features are still unavailable.
Ecodiesel V6 returns the best fuel economy ratings in the lineup and diesel RAM’s are rated at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive drops the ratings by a single point to 19/27 mpg. 1500’s price tag starts from some $25,000 and catches the $60,000 mark. Diesel upgrade costs around $4,000 which means that models with it will cost at least $29,000.
2015 Ram 1500 Diesel Review
The 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel offers better towing ratings thanks to its bigger torque output. These are great news for Ram enthusiasts as ratings have generally fallen over the years. Besides that, fuel efficiency is much better and $4,000 price tag for the upgrade is well justified. As soon it is launched we will be comparing it with its gasoline powered siblings in terms of tow rating, drivability, smoothness and similar, which we do expect to be on really high level and in some segments even in front of gasoline powered models.
