Ford Edge is a 5 door crossover SUV launched in 2006. First generation of this vehicle was presented on 2006 North American Auto Show in Detroit and its production started just one year later. After a lot of waiting it seems that the 2015 Ford Edge will be offered and that it will come with significant changes.
This car is based on CD3 platform (while the second generation is based on CD4), same as Ford Fusion, Mazda 6 and Lincoln MKX. Actually MKX is considered to be just an upscale version of Ford Edge. It is produced in Oakville facility in Ontario, Canada. 2015 model year is important for this model, because it is becoming a second generation vehicle. It received some big updates in all segments like interior, exterior and engines. It is now offered with an array of engines made with EcoBoost technology. New generation Ford Edge was premiered on last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
2015 Ford Edge Release Date
When it comes to release date we could hear that it will come in the first two months of 2015. Even this has not been announced officially we can suggest that something like this could happen. If these rumors and reports come as a true, than we can expect to see official presentation of new model slightly before the end of this year.
New model is also based on the same platform as Ford Fusion, which is praised by various online reviewers as one of the best cars in recent few years. It comes with a six-sided grille, similar to the one we can see on Hyundai Santa Fe, its shoulder line looks like ones that we can see on some BMW vehicles and C-pillar came straight from Lexus RX. In addition to that new 2015 Ford Edge looks much more premium, than before.
When it comes to interior segment it is obvious that Ford used much more quality materials and this can be easily noticed. They also decided to change dashboard configuration, and the whole front of the cabin with introducing center console again. Since the new model is riding on Fusion’s wheel base it now comes few inches wider and longer which slightly increases the space inside the cabin. This space is smartly used to increase the leg room. There are still no third row seats, and we think that’s much better than to come with three rows and decreased leg room. New Edge has 39 cubic feet of cargo space that can be significantly expanded after second row of seats is lowered.
Performance segment came with big changes in making this model. With new 2015 Ford Edge model you can choose between two six cylinder engines, both are naturally aspirated. First one is smaller 3.5 liter V6 that produces 305 hp at 6500 rpm and 253 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Slightly larger and more powerful is the 3.7 liter V6 unit that pumps out 305 hp at 6500 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Those drivers that like turbocharged EcoBoost engines can opt for the 2.0 liter inline four powerplant that brings 240 hp at 5500 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm.
Best fuel efficiency offer the 2.0 liter EcoBoost that returns 21/30/24 mpg in city/highway/combined drive conditions. Naturally aspirated units return 19/27/22 mpg for 3.5 liter V6 while the 3.7 liter V6 offers 18/26/21 mpg in city/highway/combined drive conditions. Have in mind that these are the ratings for front wheel drive version and that AWD models of 2015 Ford Edge will have slightly higher fuel consumption.
Price Of 2015 Ford Edge
Price for this model hasn’t been announced yet but we can guess it by looking at the price of previous year versions. If only slight adjustments are applied base version could be offered at less than $29,000 while the top trim levels could be price at up to $40,000. One of the things about which we could hear speculations is related to another engine that could come to the 2015 Ford Edge lineup and that is the 2.7 liter EcoBoost that is also announced for Mustang. This unit could offer similar hp figures like the 3.7 liter V6 or slightly higher, above 305 but more torque than it. We are still waiting to hear official info about it.
