Dubbed as a mid-size sedan with a HEMI engine, Dodge Charger might just be the fastest sedan in the World. The 2015 Dodge Charger models have been substantially reworked in every aspect and are now more athletic even though they kept the same Chrysler’s LX platform.
There are more than plenty of models to choose from. Charger comes in seven available grades including base SE model and top R/T Max model. In between, you’ll be able to choose among SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus and R/T Road & Track. There are also three special models this year. First two are SXT Plus and R/T Plus 100th Anniversary Edition models, and last but not the least is SRT Hellcat model at the top of the food chain.
Base engine is the 3.6L V6 which delivers 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and comes with standard RWD and optional 4WD. More powerful 5.7L HEMI V8 engine makes 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque and comes exclusively with rear-wheel drive. SRT models which will come later on will have 6.4L HEMI V8 engine, while SRT Hellcat model has the supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 that is based on the 6.4 liter version and pumps out 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque that new Challenger Hellcat muscle car has. All models are tied to 5-speed or 8-speed automatic gearboxes and Hellcat model will get Street, Sport and Track modes for transmission, traction and suspension.
Review Of 2015 Dodge Charger
New exterior styling brings thin mesh grille on trapezoid background. Front end also has thinner headlights in angular sockets and new hood with scoop and two air inlets in Hellcat model. Out back, Charges has seventies-inspired tail-lights with light bridge and Dodge’s nameplate between them.
Interior styling is quite diverse, just like the whole lineup is. Depending on a trim level, Charger will get plenty of available color themes for leather seats and cabin it offers. Heated front seats are available in all but the base model and so is 8.4-inch touch screen display with Uconnect infotainment system and a DVD player. The 2015 Dodge Charger SE model instead gets smaller 4.3-inch screen with only a CD player. Garmin navigation system is available with 8.4-inch screens, but only standard with top R/T Max and Hellcat models. Most of the lineup offers 6 premium speakers, but there’s an option of getting 19 speakers with amp and a subwoofer too.
2015 Dodge Charger Price
Fuel economy ratings are not yet disclosed, but base engine will offer 31 mpg on the highway as its best number. However, just like Challenger, Charger will also suffer from strong powertrains and ratings will deteriorate from there on. Prices will start at $26,995 for entry SE model and will go towards the $37,195 mark which is the cost of R/T Max model. SRT Hellcat beast is a special category and it should cost almost $60,000.
The 2015 Dodge Charger has a competent and deep lineup with plenty of powerful powertrains to choose from. However, this is quite a thirsty sedan and isn’t made for most people. Hellcat’s 204 mph top speed and 11 seconds quarter-mile time are also something you won’t find in regular sedan-market cars. Without a doubt after it is released in the next couple months it will one of the most powerful vehicles on the market.
